GERTRUDE AND OPHELIA IN HELL BY REBECCA GORMAN O’NEILL
“Poling and Lyles share a nice comic chemistry…” Rory Ford, The Scotsman
In this dark comedy Ophelia and Gertrude are in limbo and on their way to hell. Both believe they have been wrongfully accused. Ophelia claims that the branch was to blame! Gertrude claims that the adultery accusation is specious at best! What if they could get a redo? What if Hamlet just takes the crown this time…

Join us for an evening of staged readings of new works by playwrights from the LGBTQIA+ community. The Queer Reading Series is part of our special projects program led by Madison Kuebler, Associate Artistic Director. The reading series is often the first step in the birth of a new play, often the first time the piece is in front of an audience bringing their words from their imaginations to the stage. The plays, after two rehearsals, are then “read” script in hand sitting at music stands. The audience in attendance allows the playwright to note reactions and what works and what may need to be looked at again. An index card is handed out for the audience to write out first impressions or questions that the playwright then takes with them back into the development process.
FALL WORKSHOP
Angie, an experienced trauma therapist for refugees, walks out of her office and into seclusion after one too many encounters with the horrors of genocidal violence. An inspired fascination with lead singer Steve Perry, whom she believes is a reclusive kindred spirit, sparks six-months of letter-writing to Perry and a period of introspection in which Angie draws on her past, her friendships and her family to come to terms with the cruelty in the world.
This is a rehearsed on your feet script in hand reading, the next step to production. Join us and be a part of this wonderful play’s journey.
